Skill RESET Nigeria is a free digital skills programme of the Seyi Makinde Foundation, delivered by Learnploy. This policy explains what personal data we collect through this website, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it and the rights you have under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).
Who is responsible for your data
The Seyi Makinde Foundation and Learnploy decide together how your data is used for the programme. Learnploy runs this website and the learning platform and handles your data day to day. For any question or request about your data, email skillresetnigeria@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you apply: your first and last name, email address, phone number, gender, date of birth, state, local government area, whether you'll learn online or at a hub, preferred hub, chosen track, current status (for example student or job seeker), highest education, the device you have, how reliable your internet is, how you heard about us (if you tell us), your goal if you share one, whether you need a device or data support, and the language you used. We also record the IP address and browser details the application was sent from, to prevent fraud and duplicate applications.
When you ask for a reminder: your email address and language.
When you send a partner enquiry: your name, email address, organisation, what you would like to do and your message.
When you apply to become a hub: your organisation's name, CAC number, address, state and local government area, seating capacity, number of computers, internet and backup power, how you would recruit learners, and the contact person's name, email address and phone number.
When you register a business: the business name, state and industry, whether you want training, interns or both, the intern roles and number you can supervise, and the contact person's name, email address and phone number.
When you enter the Creator Fund: your name, email address, WhatsApp number, what you do, the tool you want funded and, if you share one, a link to your work.
When you apply as a content creator: your full name, email address, WhatsApp number and state, the social media accounts you list with your main platform, total followers and the kind of content you make, a link to a post of yours, why you want to take part if you tell us, and your bank name, account number and account name. We use your bank details only to pay you for content we have approved.
When you visit the website: the pages you view and when, the page or link that brought you here (including campaign tags), your screen size, time zone and site language, your IP address, your browser, operating system and type of device, and your approximate location (city, region and country) worked out from your IP address. To count visits without cookies, your browser stores a random ID in its local storage. It does not identify you by name and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
We do not use advertising cookies or advertising trackers, and we never sell your data.
Why we use it
- To run the programme: to review your application, place you in a track and hub, contact you about your place, give you access to the learning platform, issue certificates and help you into work through Career Launch. We rely on your consent, given when you apply, and on taking the steps you asked for by applying.
- To support you: device and data support requests help us decide where to send the help we have.
- To report on results: the Foundation and an independent auditor check that places went where they should. Reports use totals (for example how many women or which states took part), not named individuals.
- To run and protect the website: visit data shows us how people find and use the site so we can improve it, and helps us block spam and abuse. This is in our legitimate interest in running a reliable public service.
- To reply to you: reminder sign-ups get one email when applications open; partner enquiries get a reply from our partnerships team.
Who we share it with
- The Seyi Makinde Foundation and Learnploy, the organisations running the programme.
- Hub partners: the hub you attend receives your name, track and contact details so they can welcome you and record attendance.
- Employers, only if you choose to take part in Career Launch, and only the details needed to put you forward for an opportunity.
- The independent auditor, to verify results. Wherever possible they see totals rather than personal details.
- Service providers who work for us under contract: our hosting provider, which stores the data on a secure server, and ipapi.co, which receives visitors' IP addresses only, to return an approximate location.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
Data sent outside Nigeria
Some providers, such as ipapi.co, process data outside Nigeria. When that happens we only share what the service needs (an IP address for location lookups), and we rely on the safeguards the NDPA allows for international transfers.
How long we keep it
- Applications: for the programme and up to 24 months after Phase One ends, for audit and impact reporting. After that we delete them or strip out anything that identifies you.
- Reminder sign-ups: until the reminder is sent and applications for Phase One close.
- Partner enquiries, hub applications and business registrations: up to 24 months after our last contact.
- Creator Fund entries: until the draw they entered is decided, and for winners up to 24 months after, for reporting.
- Content creator applications: up to 24 months after the programme ends. Bank details are deleted once they are no longer needed to pay you.
- Website visit records: 12 months, then deleted automatically.
How we protect it
The website and our systems use encrypted connections (HTTPS). Your data is stored in a database that cannot be reached from the internet, and only authorised programme staff can see it through a password-protected dashboard.
Your rights
Under the NDPA you can:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your data, or to stop or limit how we use it;
- object to us using your data for our legitimate interests;
- ask for your data in a format you can take elsewhere;
- withdraw your consent at any time. This does not affect what we did before, but we may no longer be able to keep your place on the programme;
- not be subject to decisions made only by automated means. A person on our team reviews every application.
Email skillresetnigeria@gmail.com to use any of these rights. We will reply within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission at ndpc.gov.ng.
Applicants under 18
If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to your application and to us using your data as described here. We may contact them to confirm.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will tell applicants by email.
